About Kara Zertuche, PMHNP-BC
I’m Kara Zertuche, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I was born and raised in rural Humboldt County, California, where I continue to live and work. I’ve spent much of my career serving this community and bring over 15 years of clinical experience to my practice. I provide accessible mental health care to patients across the state — including here at home.
I completed advanced psychiatric training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and am dual board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner, a background that shapes my understanding and approach. Before specializing in psychiatry, I spent nearly a decade in primary care and urgent care in Humboldt County, including seven years at a rural health clinic providing care for underserved communities.
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I have specialized, graduate-level training, and provide comprehensive psychiatric care — including evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management — similar to that of a psychiatrist.
I specialize in ADHD, autism spectrum, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma. I work with children, adolescents, and adults.
My practice is collaborative, grounded in safety and trust, and tailored to your needs, values, and preferences. I provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive care and welcome people from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ communities.
My work is centered on careful listening, thoughtful questions, and seasoned clinical judgment. I work collaboratively with you, recognizing that you are the expert on your experience.
I strive to create a space where you feel respected, understood, and comfortable moving at a your pace.
If you’re wondering if this might be a good fit, you’re welcome to reach out.
