About Kara Zertuche, PMHNP-BC

I’m Kara Zertuche, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I was born and raised in rural Humboldt County, California, where I continue to live and work. I have spent much of my career serving this community, and I am glad to extend accessible psychiatric care to patients across the state — including here at home.

I completed advanced psychiatric training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and am dual board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner — a background that informs the breadth and depth of my clinical perspective. Before specializing in psychiatry, I spent nearly a decade in primary care and urgent care in Humboldt County, including seven years at a federally qualified rural health center providing care to underserved communities.

My practice is steady, collaborative, and grounded in safety and trust. I provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive care and welcome individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ communities.

I strive to create a space where people feel respected, understood, and comfortable moving at their own pace.
